MATCH REVIEW 9th FEBRUARY!!

MATCH REVIEW 9TH FEBRUARY!!

Honestly this was an alright and they did something right by: a) putting Mourn as an undercard and b) putting her in a comedy match cause that's all she's fucking good for! The only fucking funny thing about this was the entire audience was fucking brutal and pissed and didn't respond to some of the spots, just the entire thing about Nick and VPW being shitty with their wrestlers. Honestly I dunno who I want to believe but I'll keep watching for now.

1st Match: Honestly this should be the future of Mourn: Tremors vs IHOP
This was actually pretty fun for an undercard comedy match, there was some story bit where Pancakes tried to rile up the crowd and  then the match proper started with a few mock charges and then Mourn kept tripping up one of the Tremors (don't remember which one, don't ask), before putting him into an lock. The Tremor then counters it by sticking his fingers up his nose (yeah, come on, a comedy match) and then they brainbuster her. After a bit more fighting, then Mourn gets into a wheelbarrow for the tag, which was pretty funny. What follows is a bit of announcer interaction, with the Tremors bringing out their flag, and Yukako snatching it from them, pretending to rip it up, then handing it back but betraying the Tremor after the bow. The match is soon over with a heartstealer. I'm gonna give this one a 4 out of 5 because within the constraints of comedy matches, it was entertaining, and honestly VPW should just have Mourn do comedy matches from here on out!! It's ALL she's good for!!

2nd Match: Uno, Dos, Trios!: Birbs vs French & Friends
Actually looking forward to this match, hoping it was gonna be a good one apart from the fact that Shay was right the fuck in the middle of it. At least vampire dude, frenchie and fragata are always ready to put up a good match. This one was a standard trios match, including having 2 out of 3 falls and all that stuff about the team captain where you can pin him or yada yada yada.
Match started out alright, with frenchie getting Fragata in the corner and charging, but Fragata managed to reverse and get a sunset flip bomb, although frenchie manages to reverse that as well. Just honestly wish they had let the spot go off instead of this constant reversal shit I see all the time. Frenchie goes for a clothesline, misses but goes for a moonsault instead and catches Fragata in a neckscissor hold that honestly looked sick as fuck! The hold, well, holds until Verduga splashes the frenchman, before sending a deluge of strukes going his way, although frenchie manages to counter and send her out of the ring. Fragata comes back in and does a nice springboard crossbody, his bread and butter but still a joy to see. Goes for the pin, broken at two.  After some more squaring off, frenchie does a shin-breaker on Fragata's knee and then goes for the submission, but Fragata slips out and Big Bird comes in, squaring off against the vampire. Vampire runs in with a chair, throws it at Big Bird and then does a sick superkick that sends BB reeling. Fighting continues, vampire gets some colour on his face, standard stuff. A sick chair shot later (the audience warmed up when the vampire came in), it's followed by his Transatlantic: first fall goes to Team Frenchmen. They try to tag in Shay, who's more interested in his lady doctor than the fight, but Fragata intercedes and throws him in: eventually it's just him and Verduga in the ring. A well-deserved superkick follows, but Shay gets back up and catches her in an armbar, which is actually pulled off quite well. Shay tries to go for a chair shot of his own, but it looked weak as fuck, nothing like the ones that Vampire gives. Verduga drops out and it's Shay and Fragata: springboard elbow by the veteran followed by a backbreaker from Casuario, although its doesn't look the best. After some more fighting, finally (thankfully) Shay tags out, and Vampire is back in, and him and frenchie do a combination splash. The finish comes up soon, with an alright combination from the Birds to seal the deal.Overall a pretty awesome match, but a few rough spots mean I can only give it a 4 out of 5.

3rd Match: What? How? Why?! TSB vs CHEESE IT, ITS THE COPS
Like okay, I like (well, half) of the Cops, but really? Making TSB get taken off the tag team belt? What the fuck are VPW thinking? I'm not really sure what they are playing at, but at least this episode has been pushing Cop-Lady pretty hard. I mean, she kind of deserves it, but still, why the fuck would you get TSB in and then not push them to the moon on the first tag team belt?! Anyway, the match started with a few exchanges of strikes, pretty standard stuff  A clothesline later, Manchino goes for the turnbuckle, but Cop-lady catches him on the way down, and starts working on his leg: great stuff. Finally, Manchino escapes and Cop-Lady tags in Cop-Man, and they charge for Anna, taking her down, although the blows by Cop-Man look pretty fucking weak, I must admit: Cop-Lady should get rid of him fast, he's obviously the weak one of the pair. Anna gets the advantage when Manchino gets Cop-lady out of the way, and Cop-Man is dealt a crushing Northern Lights bomb. Outside the ring, Manchino and Cop-Lady shout at each other, but I couldn't pick anything up and honestly, they still need to keep Cop-Lady's mouth shut, she's awful on the microphone. TSB manage to catch Cop-Man in a double crucifix bomb, and Cop-lady gets in, trying to kick Manchino's leg, connecting relatively well. Finally the cops manage to get the upper hand, and win the match using an alright-looking double submission hold. The match was alright but I don't understand the end, and it looked weak at the best of time, just can't get over they fucking eliminated TSB!! I would give this 3 out of 5, but it just doesn't make sense, so 2 out of 5.

4th Match: Go back to Party City Torment vs Bradley/Time Traveller from the past
So this is supposed to be some fallout from the whole Mourn angle match and I couldn't give less than a fuck about it, but here we go. Big Mask from back when Mourn had a stable basically goes against Bradley and it's mostly strikes and big clothesline and pretty standard shit like that. I couldn't see well from the stream but I think they had a bit of audience interference outside the ring when the ex-major tried to run in, some weird shit happened and they cut away from it. So in comes Mr Vega$ himself and his posse to beat down on the two Mournlings. Some more fighting between the two happens and the one good spot of the match occurs when Bradley bulldogs Big Mourn into the two managers: it lands pretty fucking well all things considered. Some more talk later centred around the storyline which I don't give a fuck about and Bradley jumps out of the ring for a pretty huge somersault, which lands extremely well.Anyway, that's pretty much it, Torment gets crushed and they don't even bother with a pin. Crappy match with just a few spots that really stood out, 3 out of 5.

4th Match: An unlikely title bout: redux. Cop Lady vs Cortez
Look, I like Cop Lady, but I don't understand the rerun, even in a cage. It was obvious they weren't gonna give the belt to her, so why have a match (again) that everyone knew the ending of before it even started. Just doesn't make sense to have a rerun, no matter the storyline. The start of the match is pretty standard, but Cop Lady tries to get the crowd riled up and out of their hostility, which honestly kinda worked well.  Response from the crowd is great, so maybe they wanted to see this match more than I did, and maybe they fooled themselves into thinking that the belt would drop. Cop Lady then does her standard and wonderful holds, but Cortez reverses and slams her into the mat with a good looking lift and drop: sold well, as well. Cortez then counters an elbow and goes for a dropkick, after which Cop Lady tries to shoulder barge him into the turnbuckle, which doesn't work cause she is what, the size of tinkerbell? C'mon, use some psychology into this. There's some catch wrestling that follows, finally Cortez drives her into the mat. He stomps on her, then goes for a crossface hold, but Cop Lady keeps trying to free herself with blows to his head, finally getting free and taking a hold of her own, although not the best one I've seen by her. Cortez pulls himself up by the ropes and delivers a sick kick to Cop Lady, which is followed by a quick DDT. Cop Lady finally gets a chance for a counterattack with a punch, that honestly looked incredible and Cortez sells to the moon. She keeps the strikes going, and the final lock looks rather weak, and Cortez breaks free and goes for the northern lights bomb, and Cop Lady is done. Honestly not the best performance by Cop Lady, she still has potential, but the match was obvious from the start so I dunno. At least the audience seemed to be on her side. 3 out of 5

Overall, kinda a mixed evening.

  1. Hi, S. Mark (sorry I think I got it wrong last time)!

Great reviews as always! And as I am boycotting VPW over their treatment of wrestlers, it's great I can always rely on your blog to keep up to date with the stories! It seems the night had a few bright moments, from what you're saying. I know you're kind of skimming through the promos, but was there anything that teased at the latest "secret" Shay reveal? I kinda feel like it must have been referring to something I haven't seen, because I found it to be very confusing.

    1. Honestly, no. I don't really know what they're trying to do with Shay here. Looks like unfortunately he's in a weird storyline now, just like everyone else interesting, but it's the choppiest narrative I've seen since Chikara did the fake bankruptcy thing.

  2. Hey, it's good to have some obvious matches sometimes, I don't mind. Especially after, you know, THAT match. I legit yelled at my monitor when Manchino tapped out.

What's your take on the belts next week? Tag my money's on Cop Lady, I think they're clumsily trying to push her, since she has all this momentum now? They let SWAT eliminate TSB, after all, which was a twist ending for sure. And she's a young talent with potential. Mourn I'm not seeing, she's past her prime and in a match with two hot young developed talents, Fragata... I'm pretty sure they'll let him take the belt off Cortez, and it doesn't feel like they'd be pushing for a sweep.

Anyhow, very interested in your predictions!

    1. My hope: they give the belt to Fragata and do a belt sweep, since it'll fucking own if that's the angle for the next season.
My dread: they'll give it to Mourn because they are creatively bankrupt.

Don't think cops gonna get it, but weirder things have happened. Would be better than Mourn for sure.
