MATCH REVIEW 8TH SEPTEMBER!!!

MATCH REVIEW 8TH SEPTEMBER!!

Name of the game is inconsistency because ooooooh boy was this night inconsistent! It showed both the promise and the issues with VPW in equal amounts and although I liked some things, other things were showing that potentially this promotion is gonna go down the drain fast, anyway here goes the review I know you've been waiting for them!!!

1st Match: This shouldn't be bottom card w/ Yukako vs Bradley
After some boring segments where they showed the new belt (it was nice I guess) and Nick had the world's most boring interview (oh shit, yeah, Nick Prince is part of the promotion, that's pretty exciting stuff!!), the first match began and it was a fucking treat, let me tell you. I honestly don't know what the management of VPW is doing if they bottom card a match like this. I mean the idiots in reddit didn't seem to give a shit about the match but the entire bout was really technical and had some awesome spots. The powerbomb fucking KILLED IT and although I didn't really get why they had the bit with Jane at the end, the technical prowess as Yukako and Bradley progressed from grapple to grapple was really something else and it's clear that both of these wrestlers need a MUCH bigger push. Gonna give this a 4/5 stars because it just worked and was entertaining as fuck from a technical perspective.

VPW really REALLY need to give a bigger slot to especially Yukako because some of their top carders are being pushed when really they should have been fired a few episodes ago!!

2nd Match:  Why_Mourn_cant_wrestle.match w/ Mourn vs Nick D'Angelo(??)
Honestly no idea what they aimed to do with this match and especially why the teased Nick so much and then just had him beat backstage. There's rumours that there was something wrong with Nick on the night and that's why they had this angle so they had him beaten up backstage which might explain why they had to go for this shitty angle and bring back D'Angelo for some reason, which I don't think anyone was really looking forward to that much (does D'Angelo have marks? who knows).

Anyway, they had Mourn give the weakest beating I've ever seen in my life to Nick (like holy shit, slow down that footage, the chairs don't even fucking touch Nick, it's hilarious), which is funny as fuck because the idiot Mourners always claim that's the one thing Mourn can do. Anyway, she then came out to the ring and D'Angelo faced her.

This match was basically the reason I fucking hate Mourn. It started as a match where there was some good wrestling/psychology (Mourn goes for the arms to prevent D'Angelo striking etc etc) and then Mourn fucks it up once again by having her lackey save her. Just let me fucking see the wrestling, not how fucking vicious/cheaty you are! If you still like Mourn just LOOK AT THIS FUCKING MATCH!! Anyway gonna give a 2/5 because at least the start was good. Although this match raised my appreciation for D'Angelo because he basically called Shay a prick post-match, which I can always agree with.

3rd Match: VPW WRITERS: "What do????" w/ P46 vs Shay
This was pretty much the match that convinced me that there might be huge, huge issues with VPW cause fucking hell this was a fucking TRAVESTY of a match. So get this, the VPW writers had put themselves in a fucking corner because they didn't want to make P46 look weak, but for some reason wanted Shay to have a shot at the final, for whatever fucking reason. So how do we do an angle where Shay doesn't really win (cause look at him, he looks like two pieces of cardboard stapled together) and P46 doesn't really lose? I KNOW! Let's make P46's manager betray her? And the reason? Rigged betting so that he can cash in!

Like holy shit I can only suspend my disbelief SO much that a guy that rigged a bet would then openly state that he had done so, just a few seconds after rigging it. Like I don't EVEN fucking understand where the writers were going for this. I know, I know, wrestling storylines are dumb but fucking hell.

Anyway the match itself: just a series of weak-looking spots and then some slapstick with spilled whiskey for good measure. The less said about this match the better, the little amount of ring psychology that was on seemed to be like kindergarden type shit. Holy shit if this match didn't encapsulate everything wrong with VPW 1/5.

4th Match: Just hire more luchadores w/ Cortez vs Fragata
Like I've been saying that Fragata is The Real Deal and this match fucking proved it. Holy shit this match. Like HOLY SHIT! Like FUCKING WATCH THIS NOW YOU IDIOT! It had everything: ring psychology, Cortez showing what has made him great throughout the years, the wrestlers reacting to their opponent and changing strategies as the situation progressed, incredibly technical wrestling, this match had it all.

So it started slow with both wrestlers kind of cagey but the situation was immediately changed when they did that spot where Cortez grabbed Fragata in mid-fucking-air and basically ruined his shoulder (probably kayfabe but fucking hell, even in slow-mo that drop looked fucking SICK). With the busted arm, Fragata followed with a more kick-focused offence, which really showed his flexibility in the ring, with kicks, dropkicks, everything! Just showed the level of wrestling knowledge that Fragata has, just working that angle in the match so FUCKING well!

They then exchanged slaps like I was watching a NJPW (they are ace!) match, followed by another throw by Cortez that just heaped the damage on that arm. This is smart wrestling, just Cortez taking out Fragata's main finisher. But Fragata is equally smart, sweeping legs, standing moonsaults, and then a sick looking standing kneesault, which looked sick!

There was a weaker bit where  Cortez did a promo in the middle of the match, but I guess they both needed some air after the exchanges above, and honestly I liked the promo even though I'm not a fan of talking getting in the way of wrestling, but the spot with Fragata just standing up and beckoning Cortez for more was fucking badass.

With more spots coming, including an incredible hurricanrana, the match end was soon forthcoming, and what a end it was! Fragata basically gave his knees a dignified funeral for the business, missing a kneesault from the top rope, only to be speared (and yeah, I don't fucking like spear finishers, but this one was brutal and the pop was incredible). Cortez covers and wins a 5/5 match.

Weeeeell, let's not leave it at that. The match was good, I can't deny it, but it still showed the same issues that VPW showcased earlier. Can't let Fragata win because that leads to the a face v face final. So Cortez wins, and he's way too fucking old to be the first winner of the belt, so of-fucking-course they are gonna make Shay win. Yet again proof that the writers had written themselves in a corner. Maybe they have the balls to let Cortez win in the final but I fucking doubt it. Honestly Fragata should have won the belt but I guess he's not as good at being a brown noser like Shay. Just a fucking shame that VPW lets their real talent go to waste like this...

  1. you're right insofar as none of the twists worked that night

here's hoping there's some fire in that shay/d feud, the promotion desperately needs some black faces in the top spots
